Recently, the Swiss luxury watches brand Breguet added to its private collection of historic timepieces, 2 pocket watches acquired at Christie’s Geneva auction. The two pieces are the Breguet no. 4039, a half-quarter repeating watch with an off-centered hour dial and date indication, and the extremely rare Breguet Tourbillon no. 1176.
The first watch, the Breguet no. 4039, was originally sold to the Duke of Berwick on September 1825, and went for a final auction price of 70,000 Swiss francs at Christie’s. The second timepiece that Breguet’s CEO acquired may be even more exceptional. It is Abraham-Louis Breguet’s very first watch with a four-minute tourbillon, and only the third tourbillon watch that the master watchmaker ever made. These two limited edition pieces return now to the hold of its manufacturer.
