Let’s have a look at Jaeger-LeCoultre’s New Polaris Watch

Watch Winder Boca do Lobo

It’s a tradition from this house to honor its most famous historic watches. Last year the highlight of Jaeger-LeCoultre went to the new Polaris Collection, which paid a tribute to the 1968’s Memovox Polaris watch.

The history of Jaeger-LeCoultre dates all the way back to 1833 when Antoine LeCoultre, an inventor, opened his first workshop at Le Sentier. Since then history was made when it comes to Swiss watchmaking.

The original Memovox Polaris watch sure is a sight which brings us back to the old days, not to mention this being one of the most notable vintage watches there is. Only  1,714 copies of the watch exist and this is a piece which remains very collectible. Most notably this watch was a diving watch which came with a mechanical alarm. It was never remade in recent years… that is, until last year!

When it comes to this new collection it had five new models: one was an automatic watch indicating only the time of the day, another which showed both the date and time, another was a chronograph watch,  followed by a chronograph World timer, and lastly, the tribute to the Memovox Polaris from 1968. Much more than a tribute to a classical collection, this new set tried to add a timeless spirit to their products.

An element that manages to tell the old watch apart from its newer counterpart is the fact that the old watch has classical Arabic numerals and trapezoidal indexes, with the logo under the number 12. The tribute watches, however, aside from being available in black and blue, come with three concentric circles with different finishes and larger dials covered with Super-LumiNova (helpful in low light visibility scenarios).

We highlight the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph as being one of the most notable in this collection. This wonderful watch features a racing-inspired tachymeter scale, not to mention the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and the small seconds at 9 o’clock. This is the type of watch which will definitely hit the mark for many sporty people with a remarkable power reserve of 65 hours.
