Having been referred to as the “Master of Light”, Michael Anastassiades was the choice for the designer of the year at the next edition of Maison et Objet. He’s often highly regarded as being a man who manages to design a couple of lighting elements with a timeless touch to them. Basel Shows will be letting you in on all the essentials regarding this unique artist.
Fun fact: Michael Anastassiades is a familiar presence at Maison et Objet. The first time he created his lighting brand in 2007, it was in this very same event that he presented his whole new projects. More than ten years later he’s now back with the honour of designer of the year.
“Lights are a source of warmth, and what fascinates me most is the glow”
Lighting was always a pertinent factor the designer, who was drawn to this type of furniture early on, for its poetic qualities. Michael Anastassiades had the luck in his professional journey of having cooperated with FLOS which allowed him to gain new experience and embrace new challenges. By creating his own brand, this allowed him to create and embrace more ambitious projects.
“It takes a lot of effort to make something look simple”
More than a lighting fan, Anastassiades is also a fan of timeless elements in his creations. There’s a misleading simplicity that defines his projects, as well as his idea that one should surround him or herself with objects that will last a very long time.
“To design a light one first has to embrace the darkness”
Michael Anastassiades will be a part of the digital platform MOM (MAISON&OBJET AND MORE). The event platform was launched in September 2016 and it provides a comprehensive overview of all of the latest news and products from manufacturers, artisans and designers who will be present at the fair.
