Terrazzo is making a major comeback in 2019! Although this trend may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of a design trend, terrazzo these days is made with chips of marble, quartz, granite, or even glass set into a matrix of concrete or epoxy resin.
Originating in Italy over 500 years ago, the composite material of marble chippings set into cement was created as a way to reuse the scrapped rock. Once the fragments are set, the surface is then polished to create a super-smooth finish. Traditionally sold as flooring, the material was popular in the 1970s and is back for 2019, replacing the marble trend of the last couple of years.

Terrazzo is a lot more than just a flooring material. It’s a design aesthetic that goes back thousands of years, while still retaining its unique influence today in the 21st century.
