Get to Know the Work of Swiss Master Artisans at Homo Faber Exhibition – Get to know the oustanding work of the swiss artisans present at Homo Faber.
Barbara Amstutz – Silversmith
This handmade brass bowl with a number of bold, quasi-triangular geometric faces has been finished with a brass patina. Barbara Amstutz takes her inspiration from the vaulted ceilings of the Benedictine Convent of St John at Müstair, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.
Bastien Chevalier – Wood marquetry
Bastien Chevalier will be demonstrating his expert knowledge of intricately made marquetry live at Homo Faber from 22nd to 24th September. Bastien’s work takes its inspiration from nature, experiences in his youth and graffiti art. He uses traditional techniques to create contemporary designs that evoke his passion for graffiti design.
Charles Roulin – Knife making
Charles Roulin will be working live at Homo Faber from 28th to 30th September demonstrating his method of creating knives. Charles discovered this vocation at the age of 48 after having worked as a photographer and restorer of antique objects. After an internship, he dedicated himself part-time to his knife-creations, making this passion his full-time job by the age of 52.
Monica Guggisberg & Philip Baldwin – Glass work
Transparent glass bottles of varying shapes and sizes are placed within a boat’s welded steel frame. These moulded and free-blown colourless bottles sit on top of sand that covers the boat’s floor.
Jérôme Blanc – Wood turning
Using the rotation of a wood lathe, Jérôme Blanc reproduces free and random lines like an abstract drawing. Creating new movements with his tools, the wood takes on the appearance of a new material, similar to ceramic, that one might have modelled. The objects are purely decorative.
Arnold Annen – Ceramicist
Parabola-shaped bowls with porcelain thorns spread throughout the surface of the object, engraved with finely graded lines.
Ulrike Dederer – Luthier
Zurich based Luthier Ulrike Dederer will be demonstrating her bow instrument work live at Homo Faber from 16th to 18th September. Ulrike creates and restores wooden bow instruments such as violins, cellos and violas.
